Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma receives grant

All News

The Central Community Foundation provided a grant to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Oklahoma to support their Stillwater area one-on-one youth mentoring program.

The mission of BBBSOK is to provide children who face adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that can help them achieve success. The organization typically serves children from low-income, single-parent or guardian households.

A single “big” is paired with one “little” based on personality, common interests, the needs of a child, and the strengths of the volunteer to set the match up for success. The “bigs” provide “littles” with individualized time and attention through activities in the community, typically two to four times per month for a few hours each time.

BBSOK staff provides regularly scheduled support, encouragement, and advice to match via regularly scheduled conversations, additional check-ins as needed and annual meetings and evaluations of the relationships.

The Central Community Foundation provides grants through the Operation Round Up program at Central Rural Electric Cooperative. Members of CREC can round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar to help organizations and residents in need throughout Central’s seven-county service area.
