A new place to call home is on the horizon for The Chosen House as they near their goal with a grant from the Central Community Foundation.
The faith-based organization supports and offers women struggling with substance abuse a second chance by providing counseling, behavior modification courses and other rehabilitation services.
“People think we’re a shelter,” said Marri Battle, founder and President of The Chosen House. “We are so much more than that, we are a program that helps women in need of a second chance while offering a safe place to meet their goals.”
The organization runs out of a home where women can stay while there are attending the nine-month program, and currently can serve five women at a time.
The foundation grant will go to help purchase a new home that can house eight women and they hope to begin building in July.
The Central Community Foundation provides grants through the Operation Round Up program at Central Rural Electric Cooperative. Members of CREC can round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar to help organizations and residents in need throughout Central’s seven-county service area.
