The Central Community Foundation provided a grant to the City of Cushing Emergency Management to help fund the purchase of a drone.
Cushing Emergency Management helps keep the city prepared and aware of potential disasters and other catastrophic events. The role of emergency management is to take control of a chaotic situation and restore the city to normal function as smoothly as possible. Emergency management coordinates planning with police, fire, environmental programs, operations and other city agencies.
The drone will be equipped with thermal imaging and be used to assist other public safety entities in the area. The drone would be beneficial in locating missing persons, finding a suspect on the run, and helping to watch over large events where people are gathering. In the event of a natural disaster, the drone would be used for damage assessment.
Without help from the Central Community Foundation, a purchase of a drone with these capabilities wouldn’t be possible. The drone will help further Emergency Management’s goal of enhancing safety and security for Cushing.
The Central Community Foundation provides grants through the Operation Round Up program at Central Rural Electric Cooperative. Members of CREC can round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar to help organizations and residents in need throughout Central’s seven-county service area.
