The American flags posted throughout Cushing and in front of Cushing City Hall tell stories of local veteran’s time in the military and overseas.
Roughly 100 flags were placed on lawns to honor and thank local veterans for their service by members of the Cushing Masonic Lodge.
“This is the first year the Masonic Lodge has placed flags in veteran’s yards,” said Sean Martin, Masonic Lodge member and Central Rural Electric Cooperative Electrical Equipment Superintendent. “This was made possible by a grant from the Central Community Foundation.”
Operation Round Up allows the Central Community Foundation to provide grants to local nonprofits and organizations throughout Central’s seven-county service area.
“The flags not only honor our veteran’s but the Lodge also gifts the flags for the veterans to keep,” said Martin. “We hope more veterans will take notice and that the number of flags placed in yards will grow next year.”
The flags will be in front of City Hall on Veterans Day and through the end of the week.
The Central Community Foundation collects grant applications throughout the year. The next round of applications is due November 15 and can be found at MyCentral.Foundation along with articles of previous grants.
