Perkins-Tryon Band received a $2,500 grant from the Central Community Foundation to help replace the current drumline, which is roughly 12 years old.
“We were very thankful for being awarded this grant,” said KG Robinson, director of bands for Perkins-Tryon Schools.
The grant will help with the $16,000 goal to replace the drumline. The group recently launched a “Fill the Drum” campaign to raise the funds to purchase a new drumline.
“It’s just normal wear and tear,” Robinson said. “We had parts of drums that were repaired with duct tape.”
The band currently has 12 students in its drumline and 65 band members total. The group has raised roughly $4,000 of its goal. If you would like to contribute to their goal, donations can be made at secure.qgiv.com/for/pbb/ and by selecting “Fill the Drum Campaign under please direct my support.
