Each year, Tara’s Lighthouse raises funds to provide food to students and families in need during the Christmas break from school. This year, Tara’s Lighthouse hopes to provide 240 food boxes to families in Agra, Cushing, Drumright, Oilton and Olive.
“Due to Covid, we weren’t able to host this year’s Oil Patch Charity Auction, and that has left a huge gap in our fundraising efforts,” said Randy Brown, director of the 501c3 organization.
Thankfully, the Central Community Foundation is able to help with their goal and provided a $1,500 grant to the organization. At a cost of $100 per box, their goal is $24,000. The food boxes, which contain several non-perishable food items and a gift card to purchase perishable items, will help families when school breakfast and lunch is not available. Grants from the Central Community Foundation are made possible by Central Rural Electric Cooperative members who round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar. These funds are put into the foundation, which distributes them to people in need throughout Central’s seven-county service area. The foundation has five fields of interest: healthcare, education, disaster relief, personal need and community purpose.
