Guthrie’s senior citizens will receive a little extra this Christmas thanks to a grant from the Central Community Foundation.
A Very Merry Guthrie Christmas lights up the Cottonwood Flats of Guthrie with Christmas lights each year where they hold an annual event, free for senior citizens. The event serves more purpose than a light show, it also allows each Guthrie nursing home resident along with a few other families in the community special gifts during the holiday season.
The $4,000 Central Community Foundation grant, half of A Verry Merry Guthrie Christmas’ current gift budget, will allow the organization to purchase gifts for the roughly 200 senior residents in the Guthrie area.
If you are interested in the drive-thru lights show at the Cottonwood Flats, it’s open from Nov. 25 through Jan. 1, free of charge. The Lights in the Cottonwood Flats Festival which includes pop-up shops, food trucks and a firework show will take place at dark on Saturday, Dec. 16 and is also free of charge.
The Central Community Foundation provides grants through the Operation Round Up program at Central Rural Electric Cooperative. Members of CREC can round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar to help organizations and residents in need throughout Central’s seven-county service area.
